!
where the drainage way enters the roadside ditch. These improvements are being made to
correct continuing erosion problems in an area adjacent to Lake Decatur.
1400 Block of West Sunset Avenue. Reroute a section of existing combined sewer that has
experienced continued maintenance problems and extends under a residence.
Bavshore Drive and Woodhill Drive. Install an inlet at the northwest corner of the
intersection and extend a new storm sewer to connect to an existing system at Hackberry
Drive. This is to correct a sump condition in the street that ponds water for extended periods
of time and in the winter causes icing problems.
The plans and specifications for this project were prepared by the Engineering Division.
Bids were received and opened on Tuesday, July 6, 1999. The results (copy of the bid tabulation
is attached) of the letting are as follows:
Compared to
Engineer's Est.
Bidder Bid Price Over(-Under) %
Engineer's Estimate $ 87,172.00 ---
Entler Excavating Co., Inc. $ 68,935.00 (20.92)
The receipt of one bid is a concern. As the bid amount is greater than 20 percent below the
Engineer's estimate, staff considers the amount to be representative of the market cost of the
improvements and does not feel re-advertising the project for bids to likely result in additional
cost savings for the City. In addition, staff does want to proceed with the construction of the
improvements to correct the drainage problems at these three locations. It is recommended by
staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for the
Miscellaneous Storm Sewer Improvement Program, City Project No. 9710, to Entler Excavating
Co., Inc. as the lowest responsive, responsible bidder in the amount of$68,935.00 and that the
Mayor be authorized to execute the contract.
City staff will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer questions that the
Council members may have.
attach: 2
cc: Phillip R.
