E., City Enginee�v"� SUBJECT: Mound Road -Rte 48 to Brush College Road Watermain Macon County plans to start the construction of improvements to Mound Road between Illinois Route 48 and Brush College Road in June of this year. The City's Watermain Extension Program for this year includes the installation of a 16-inch watermain in Mound Road between Illinois Route 48 and Brush College Road. The Mound Road watermain is an important section as it will connect the Brush College Road watermain, being installed at this time to the City's water distribution system, to the west (refer to attached area map). Its importance relates to providing reliable and adequate water flow and pressure in this area. An additional benefit is that it will provide City water service to properties along Mound Road for future development. The design of this year's Watermain Extension Program is 95 percent completed. The project should be advertised for bids within the next three weeks subject to getting a permit from the railroad for a watermain crossing on Wyckles Road. The time frame from the date the project is advertised for bids to the contractor starting work is typically about 5 to 7 weeks. The schedule for the Watermain Extension Project would have the City's contractor starting work about the same time or after the start of the East Mound Road improvements. This would likely result in work area conflicts for both contractors and cause possible delay claims. City staff determined that the best option was to add this work to the City's current contract with Bodine Services, Inc., for the Brush College Road Watermain Extension project. The Brush College Road project is adjacent to Mound Road and includes the installation of a 16-inch watermain. The plans far the Mound Road watermain have been prepared by the Engineering Division and coordinated.with the County's East Mound Road improvements.
