.. . „_
. Page 2
.
Staff contacted Bodine to ask if it would be agreeable to adding this work to the Brush
College Road project. Bodine Services, Inc., was agreeable to the change arder. A copy of the
change order is attached. The unit price for a 16-inch watermain was adjusted to compensate
Bodine Services, Inc., for the extra depth of cut required to install the Mound Road watermain.
The line must be installed deeper than normal by about 2 feet to ensure the watermain has
minimum cover after roadway improvements are completed. If the City waited until after the
roadway improvements were completed, the pipeline work would disturb the finished
improvements. The City would have the additional expense of restoring grassed and paved areas.
In addition, Bodine Services, Inc., will be able to open cut Mound Road to make watermain
crossings rather than having to bore under the new roadway. The change order also includes
several items that were not required on the Brush College Road project.
The estimated amount of the change order is $175,415.30 and increases the contract
amount to $476,415.30. Funds for the project and this change order will come from the Water
Capital Fund.
It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution
approving Change Order No. 1 to the City's contract with Bodine Services, Inc., for the Brush
College Road Watermain Extension, City Project 9715, in the amount of $175,415.30 for the
Mound Road Watermain Extension; increasing the amount of said contract to $476,415.30; and
that the Director of Public Works be authorized to execute said change order. This
recommendation is made in consideration of time constraints to complete the work; the
contractor's current contract includes comparable work and is adjacent to the work area; and the
contractor agreeing to the work.
City staff will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer questions that
Council may have.
Attach: 3
cc: Phillip R.
