Mayor and City Council
December 16, 1998
Page Two
several years before. On December 9, 1998, the findings of those previous inspections were
received.
The original plan was to attempt to use part of the existing parking structure. After reviewing the
information provided, it seems to be the best approach to completely demolish the building and
start fresh. The cost of the demolition was estimated to be approximately $ 270,000. Between this
additional cost and the price paid for the parking structure, the previous budget would not cover
the project. NIr. Collins has been in contact with the Illinois Department of Transportation and has
received tentative approval to expand the scope for complete demolition and additional funding.
Staff requests Council approve for the City to proceed to negotiate a contract with Blank,
Wesselink and Cook for the Architectural and Engineering cost for the City of Decatur
Multi-Modal Transportation Facility.
Final approval of this project depends upon concurrence of IDOT and FTA approval of the
selection process and the awarding of the contract.
