The installation of new sidewalks on the south side of Eldorado Street between Route '
36 and Fairview Avenue. This item is expected to cost the City $4,100, which is 50% of
the total sidewalk cost.
3. a. The traffic signals at Route 36 and Eldorado Street will be upgraded with new
mastarms, indications, wirin, vehicle detection loops, etc. The cost to the City is
estimated to be $4,666, which is 6.7% of the total. Lighting is also proposed for
the new traffic signals. This lighting is estimated to cost $1,725, of which 100%
has to be paid by the City.
b. The traffic signals at Eldorado Street and Fairview Avenue will be upgraded to
accommodate pedestrians. The cost to the City is estimated to be $600, which is
10% of the total.
The total cost to the City, with the addition of engineering fees ($21,014) is estimated to be
$161,105.
The majority of this project will be paid through jurisdictional transfers in which the City will
take over the maintenance and jurisdiction of various streets as discussed at the October 13 Study
Session. As discussed previously, City staff believes that the addition of these street segments to
the City inventory will not significantly reduce the existing level of street maintenance operations
service to the rest of the City.
In transferring the maintenance and jurisdiction of the attached streets to the City, the State
of Illinois will agree to fund $141,000 of the City's portion of the West Route 36 improvements.
The remaining $20,105 ($161,105 - $141,000)will be paid for out of the Motor Fuel Tax Fund in
Fiscal Year 1998-99.
City staff requests approval of the attached Resolution.
Staffwill be present to answer any questions the Council may have.
attach: 2
