federal, state, and county agencies (USEPA, IEPA, county Soil & Water Conservation Districts <br /> (SWCD) and Farm Bureau) as well as local watershed planning committees such as the Lake <br /> Decatur Watershed Planning Committee and Champaign County Soil & Water Conservation <br /> District Water Quality Committee. <br /> PROJECT OBJECTIVES <br /> The main goal of this project is to continue to assist the City of Decatur in complying <br /> with the Letter of Commitment (LOC) agreed upon with the Illinois Environmental Protection <br /> Agency (IEPA) by continuing to monitor the watershed for nitrates from May 1997 through April <br /> 1998. To accomplish this goal, we outline the following objectives: <br /> 1. Continue to maintain and operate the watershed monitoring network at the <br /> present level. Table 1 lists the present monitoring stations and sampling schedule. The ISWS <br /> will maintain the continuous stream recording equipment and the data records will be processed <br /> to determine continuous streamflows. Nitrate-N will continue to be sampled at all sites and <br /> visited weekly. This sampling schedule allows for the monitoring of nitrates being delivered to <br /> the lake from the watershed. <br /> Table 1. Process and analyze a fifth year of data collection. The fifth year of data will be <br /> processed for water discharge (flow), nitrate concentrations, and nitrate loading for all eight <br /> stations in the monitoring network.
