Williams, 7r., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb, Director of Public Works v
Keith D. Alexander, Lake Manager
SUBJECT: Decatur Angler's Association Proposal for Use of City Owned Property
The Decatur Angler's Association (a not-for-profit organization formed in December, 1996,
to improve Lake Decatur fishing opportunities) has requested permission to lease City owned
, property for the operation of a fish rea.ring pond. Association members to date include:
Decatur Bassmasters Fishing Club
Kaskaskia Valley Bassmasters Fishing Club
County Liners Bassmasters Fishing Club
Illinois Bass Federation
Loca1 and National Isaac Walton League
Don Moreland, retired City Fire Fighter
Keith D. Alexander, Lake Manager
The property is located at 1705 North Country Club Road and is commonly referred to as
the 1988 Lake Decatur Sediment Storage Site. The City's tree debris burn area is located on the
east side of the site and would be excluded from the proposed agreement.
It is estimated that approximately 20,000 crappie and /or largemouth bass could be raised in
the pond annually. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources has agreed to supply the young
fish free of charge, then the Decatur Angler's Association would feed and release the fish after
they grow to a desirable size. For further information please review the attached Pond
Management Plan submitted by the Association.
