' r
In December 1996, City staff issued a public notice requesting proposals from area '
engineering firms to investigate the feasibility of providing a pedestrian crossing at the existing '
at-grade railroad crossing in the 800 block of East Marietta Street. Three firms responded to the I,
City's request with written proposals. These proposals were reviewed by a staff committee
consisting of the Traffc Engineer, the Transportation Planner, and the Civil Engineer. Each
proposal was reviewed to determine the relevant background and eerience of each firm and the
firm's recommended approach to the proposed task. VWP Corporation was selected based upon
their wide range of experience with pedestrian crossings, the Illinois Commerce Commission, and
the various railroad entities. WVP has proposed, what stafffeels to be, a very effective approach
to investigating the feasibility of a pedestrian crossing at this location. They have demonstrated
that they have the staffing and experience to provide the City with a good product.
City staff will be available to answer any questions the Council may have.
attach: 2
