McNabb, Director of Public Works�V <br /> Stephen P. 5wanson, City Engineer� <br /> SUBJECT: Rehabilitation of the Lower Broadway Sewer <br /> City Project 9519 <br /> The Lower Broadway Sewer Rehabilitation project was advertised for bids following the <br /> August presentation to the City Council. At that meeting the City's consultant, Bainbridge, Gee, <br /> Milanski & Associates, Inc. (BGM), discussed their recommendations for the rehabilitation of <br /> this sewer. In addition, the Council was informed that the estimated cost of the project exceeded <br /> the City's current budget for this project of $742,000. For this reason, it was decided that the <br /> project would be advertised for bids such that the base bid would be for reconstructing 60 <br /> percent of the sewer at this time and bidders would also be directed to submit a bid for <br /> completing the entire project at this time. After the receipt of the bids on the alternatives, the <br /> City could then make its final determination as to how to proceed with this project. <br /> BGM prepared the plans, specifications and bid proposal forms for the two bid <br /> alternatives. Alternative A was for the rehabilitation of the entire sewer from near the <br /> intersection of Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive and Prairie Avenue south to a major diversion <br /> structure just south and west of the intersection of Decatur Street and Franklin Street. The <br /> length of Alternative A is about 2,600 feet. Alternative B was for the rehabilitation of <br /> approximately 70 percent of the sewer. This segment begins at Wood Street and extends south <br /> to the major diversion structure just south and west of the intersection of Decatur Street and <br /> Franklin Street. The length of Alternative B is about 1,800 feet. (It was determined by BGM in <br /> the final design process that although about 60 percent of the line is in need of immediate repair <br /> the logical breakpoint in the project would be at the Wood Street structure. Previous <br /> correspondence and comments had generally referred to a 60/40 split.) <br />
