On the basis of these findings, City staff is recommending that the remaining six hydraulic
cylinders be removed and thoroughly cleaned. City staff is requesting to remove and inspect the
last two cylinders on the South bascule gate at this time. The four cylinders on the North bascule
gate will be removed under a soon to be bid contract to rehabilitate the hydraulic control house.
Until the cylinders on the North bascule gate can be removed and cleaned, the North bascule gate
will not be used during periods of cold weather unless absolutely necessary. To prevent the future I
buildup of sludge material, the City will be placing "drain plugs" in the bottom and top of each i
cylinder to allow staff to periodically remove any possible sludge buildup. I
The estimated cost to remove and inspect the remaining two cylinders on the South '
bascule gate is $67,304. This era work order would be paid from the South Water Treatment
Plant Bond Fund, where there is sufficient funding available. I
City staff will be available to answer any questions that the Council may have at the
meeting.
attachments: 3
