130 City staff performed traffic counts at the subject intersection and determined that Calhoun Street <br /> 131 carries the higher volume of traffic. There are about 1,673 vehicles entering the intersection <br /> 132 daily. There were high peaks of traffic along southbound Calhoun during times when Eldorado <br /> 133 Street was blocked by a train which directs traffic that is less familiar with the neighborhood to <br /> 134 cross this intersection; although there is no evidence that any of the accidents happened during <br /> 135 times that a train was blocking Eldorado Street. With four correctable accidents, this results in <br /> 136 2.18 accidents per million vehicles entering the intersection. The goal is to keep the rate below <br /> 137 1.5 accidents per million vehicles. <br /> 138 <br /> 139 City staff recommends installing stop signs at the intersection of North Calhoun Street and East <br /> 140 North Street facing North Street. <br /> 141 <br /> 142 Matt Newell motioned to move forward with the installation of stop signs at the intersection of <br /> 143 North Calhoun Street and East North Street facing North Street. Currently the only <br /> 155 occupied houses on the block are on the south side of the street and none of the houses have <br /> 156 driveways off the street. Center Street appears to be a low volume street and the number of <br /> 157 houses suggests that there wouldn't be very many cars parked on the street at a given time. <br /> 158 <br /> 159 Citizen member Jared Broderick asked if there is parking on the north side of the street to which <br /> 160 Griffin Enyart replied yes. <br /> 161 ' <br /> 162 Citizen member John Ninneman asked if there is concern from the Decatur Fire Department with <br /> 163 cars being parked on both sides of the street.
