the number of companies and the number of cabs. Carpenter
added some Council members confused the senior citizen
discount with the subsidized taxi program.
Bacon suggested to the applicant that the perspective
that was raised about three cab companies being too much for
the market in Decatur will not be a lot different when you
have a second company applying to replace a business that
has closed.
R. Holmes stated he listened to his scanner several
weeks ago on a Saturday evening. There were only two cabs
in service. Bacon commented if your application is
approved, an advantage is that there will be more cabs to
serve the city.
S. Antonacci stated they are proposing lower rates to
the citizens. P. Antonacci stated they operated in
Springfield with lower rates until the price hike.
Bacon stated that Chapter 60, Section 18, of the City
Code states the rate schedule shall be uniform as to class
of service for each company. Meyers responded that is her
interpretation also.
Bacon stated the rate schedule is as follows:
1) One passenger $1.50 for first 1/10 of mile, $. 10
for each additional 1/10 of mile;
2) $. 50 for each additional passenger over six years ,
of age; ,
3) Waiting time over five minutes, at request of the
passenger, shall be charged at the rate of $12 . 00
per hour, or $.20 per minute;
4) No extra charge shall be made for trips which
originate in and end in the corporate limits of
the city; and,
5) No "minimum" charge shall be charged on any fare.
V. Holmes stated that is why the meters have not been
set. They will be set once Council has approved their
application. Bacon stated that was the conversation he just
had, that it is permissible to have different minimums.
Once the rate schedule has been approved, it must be honored
by everyone.
P. Antonacci stated Pride Midwest will generate a lot
more business. They have received a lot of support thus
far.
