 .
COUNCIL MEMORANDUM
#92-06
February 27, 1992
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: James C. Ba o Jr. , City Manager
RE: Taxi Application
The attached resolution would authorize Pride Midwest
Services, Inc. to operate a taxicab service under the provisions
of Chapter 60 in our municipal code. I recommend that the
resolution be adopted.
A hearing on the application was held Wednesday, February
26, 1992, at 2 : 00 p.m. Minutes from that hearing are attached
for your review.
Currently the city is served by only one taxicab company.
The presently authorized company has not increased the number of
cabs. As a result, I would conclude that adopting this
resolution would increase the convenience for Decatur residents.
Further, I would conclude that a second taxicab company is
necessary to adequately serve this community so that customers
have a choice when deciding on taxicab service.
The business interests represented in the application have
operated a livery service since May, 1990. City staff has found
them to be responsible operators who understand and accept the
conditions of Decatur ordinances and I conclude that they will
continue to operate in such fashion if the Decatur City Council
accepts my recommendation and adopts the attached resolution.
The company has already secured five cabs and office space
in the city of Decatur. If the resolution is adopted, it is
their intention to operate ten cabs in the city. Representatives
of the applicant and I will be available at Monday's meeting to
answer any additional questions.
Attachments
