Steve Tick indicating that he desired t:o isolate the sprinkler system iri the Neumans ' buil.ding which is owned by his curporation. During the conversa� ion I �Na�> informed that the Woolworth building and Neumans have a c�mmon dry sprinkler system. Mr . Ticl� felt since the Woolworth t�uilding was not to be heat;ed, th�ere is a chance that freezir�g could occur . I am aware that the system is a dry system but I have no recar-ds of maintenance or tests bpiny conducted on the system to assure ther-e has not been and wi l 1 i�ot be leal�:age. Without sucl� verification, I i�av� a tendency to aqree with Mr . Tick . If he were to isolate tfie systerti for the Neumans ' building , this puts the �prinkler system for Woolworths out of service. This is iii violation of the BOCA Basic Fire Prevention Code 1987 which has been adopted by the City of Decatur as ordinance. 5ection F . -�502.4 Vacant Builcjing states: "Vacant and unoccupied building or poi- tions thereof shal ] maintain all required sprinklE�►- and standpipe systems and all component parts in a workable condition at all times . " ExceF��ion: "Wh�re the type of con�>truction, fire separation and securi �y of the building is such as not to create a fire hazard as �-�pproved by tlie code official . " The building is a thre� stot-y building with wood floors, is ir� the middle of tt�e downtown area and has had no increased security sincc� vacated so it does not fit any crit�ria therefore the sprinkler system shall not be placed out of service.
