However, City staff strongly recommends that the ductile iron pipe bid be <br /> awarded for these reasons: <br /> • Ductile iron has a slightly larger inside diameter that allows for greater water flow than PVC. <br /> • Ductile iron is a much stronger material than PVC. <br /> • Ductile iron is much easier to locate with above ground locating equipment than PVC. <br /> • It is easier to locate leaks in ductile iron as it transmits sound waves better than PVC. <br /> • City staff are more familiar and competent with ductile iron repairs than PVC repairs. <br /> Burdick Plumbing & Heating Company, Inc. provided the only bid for the proposed work. The firm <br /> has satisfactorily completed numerous projects for the City.
