. .

DIVIBION B - HROADWAY BEWER
south BroadMay eeMer
The South eroadway Sewer is that portion of the Broadway
Sewer extendin downstream from a diversion st
9 ructure iust south
of Decatur St, to a discharge into the box outfall at South Main
Street. Dry weather plus "first flush" flow is diverted to the
Sanitary District Main Interceptor immediately upstream of this
section. The South Broadway Sewer thus handles only excess flow
from the Broadway System except as occasional lateral connections
may have been added. During dry weather, only a very nominal flow
is carried in this sewer. The sewer is circular brick with a one
row tile invert, 84-inches in internal diameter and approximately
1100 lineal feet in length.
The 1966 investigation of this sewer resulted in the follow-
ing recommendation: "Provide concrete liner (1080 '±) and install
manhole near mid-point. " Although the Broadway Sewer immediately
upstream has since been repaired, no major rehabilitation of this
South Broadway Sewer has been accomplished to date.
Current interior inspectior►s reveal no imminent signs of
structural failure and the sewer qenerally has maintained its
original configuration. Throughout the lfne, however` there are
several instances where brick are loose or missing in the crown
of the sewer and mortar joints in the crown are badly eroded to
a depth of up to 2-inches. Invert tile are badly broken and
numerous holes were found in the invert where tile or brick are
missing. Mortar is almost completely gone from the inside row of
invert brick throuqhout most of the distance. In the downstream
half of this section of sewer, extensive seepage areas were noted
87023A _ EXHIBIT E
16 of 29
R-
