 « -
where groundwater is penetrating the brick sewer shell. Such
seepaqe indicates deteriorating mortar joints but at present does
not appear to be extensive enough to develop voids outside the
sewer due to migration of backfill material into the sewer.
Twenty-one (21) lateral connections through the sewer were
noted in various states of deterioration. Some of these appear
active, some inactive. In several instances the seal between the
connectinq pipe and the sewer shell has deteriorated or eroded
away leaving voids around such pipe. Occasibnal voids can be
noted extending outside the sewer wall . These are most likely
areas for structural problems to develop if such voids are not
sealed properly.
Only two manholes were found along this 1100 ' of sewer, both
of which are approximately 24" in diameter and both buried. A
standard 4 ' diameter manhole fs needed in this section to allow
for necessary maintenance or rehabilitation work.
Photographs included in the Video inspection report depict
certain typical instances of the deficiencies noted above. Of
particular interest is photographs No. 3 & 4 taken between Man-
holes B-2 a.nd B-1. This 24" vitrified tile connection is badly
broken and in danger of collapse. Whether active or inactive it
should be repaired and/or plugged and filled to avoid development
of a major void adjacent to the Broadway Sewer.
R703A B'3 17 of 29
