. .
r .. . .
Current interior investigations of the Cantrell St. Sewer
found it to vary from fair to bad condition, with some instances
of serious structural deficiencies.
The 48" and 54" circular brick sewer extending from Webster
St, to the diversion structure at Jackson Street is considered in
fair condition. Noted deficiencies include: mortar joints in the
sewer invert are heavily eroded; periodic crown and spring line
cracks extend longitudinally along the sewer; root growth is in-
truding through the sewer crown, notably just downstream from
Webster St. ; lime and other deposits extending below the sewer
spring line indicate almost continuous seepage through the brick
shell ; missing crown brick, crown separation and a significant
wall and crown deformation as noted immediately upstream from
Jackson St. for a distance of 60 '± and immediately downstream of
Martin Luther King. , Jr. Drive. Thirty-five lateral connections
extend through the brick sewer shell, in various stages of deter-
ioration varying from good to very poor. Voids arouna such con-
nections are prevalent and mortar joint erosion below such connec-
tions is general. Photographs showing several of these connec-
tions are included in the Video Inspection Report and are indica-
tive of the general condition af such laterals.
The existing diversion structure at Jackson St. has required
continuous maintenance effort to keep the 15-inch interceptor
clean and operatinq freely. This diversion, however, is to be
replaced with a new facility as part of the Lincoln Park Combined
87023A B-11
20 of 29
