_ , .
.
PROVISION OF A NEW 54 OUTFALL
Advantages• '
(a) Operation and maintenance of a new facility.
(b) Provision of adequate sewer capacity with no
anticipated surcharge from the total proposed
service area.
Disadvan'caqes:
(a) Substantially increased initial cost.
(b) Traffic disruption during the construction
period (Cantrell Street and a Franklin Street
crossinq) .
(c) Required extension of existing active laterals,
now served by the Cantrell Street outfall, to
discharge into the new facility.
(d) Some rehabilitation of the existing facility
would be necessary, even if it is abandoned, to
maintain its structural stability.
In Summary, we believe that while construction of a new out-
fall facility would provide the best lon ran
e so
lution for
9 9 this
problem area, rehabilitation of the existing facility could rea-
sonably serve current needs. In any event the problem should be
addressed in the immediate future. Accordingly, we recommend
rehabilitation of the existing outfall at this time.
87023A B-17
26 of 29
