REED, MASS TRANSIT COORDINATOR <br /> SUBJECT: UMTA OPERATING AND CAPITAL GRANT APPLICATION FOR FY' 90 <br /> The attached resolution will authorize the filing of a grant <br /> application with the U . S . Department of Transportation, Urban <br /> Mass Transportation Administration. The application requests <br /> $ 797 , 670 in Section 9 operating assistance for the Decatur Public <br /> Transit System in FY ' 90 (July 1 , 1989 thru June 30, 1990) . <br /> Total eligible operating expenses for the coming year are <br /> estimated at $ 1 ,882 ,010 with the State contributing $752 , 804 and <br /> the remaining $331, 536 coming from passenger fares and local ' <br /> revenues . I <br /> In addition to the operating assistance, the City is also I <br /> applying for a capital grant to purchase a wheelchair ' <br /> lift-equipped van, a tire changer and sandblaster for the <br /> maintenance division, and office furniture and computer equipment � <br /> for the administrative division. Total cost of the capital items I <br /> is estimated at $45 ,000 . The federal government will fund 80�, II <br /> or $36,000, of the project costs and the state will fund the 'i <br /> remaining 207, or $9,000 . I <br /> Approval of the grant application is not expected until I <br /> September, 1989 . The first reimbursement for operating j <br /> assistance will probably not be received until early 1990.
