. , \ ,
Petition For Zoning Ordinance Amendment
December 29, 1992
TO: Mayor Erik C. Brechnitz
City Council
City Plan Commission
I, David A. Clark, Director of Community Development, hereby
- in District and
request that Section XI (B 1 Neighborhood Shopp g )
Section XXI (Special Use Regulations) of the Zoning Ordinance
Ord. 3512 be amended b addin thereto the followin lan ua e
( ) Y g g g 9
respectively:
Section XI.
' E. Special Use
1. Funeral home or mortuary
2. Ambulance service
Section XXI.
A. 1. (z) . Funeral home or mortuary in the B-1 Neighborhood
Shopping District
Existing zoning regulations list a funeral home as first being
permissive in the B-2 Commercial District, which is the least
restrictive of the two commercial classifications (B-1 and B-2) .
Recent inquiries have been made relative to the possibility of a
funeral home being also permitted under the B-1 Neighborhood
Shopping District.
Upon review of present zoning regulations and consideration of
zone classifications for a funeral home in other Illinois cities
of comparable size, staff is of the opinion that a funeral home
in the B-1 classification by means of a special use permit would
be compatible with other uses currently permitted. Further, the
special use permit will provide for specific and individual
review of each proposal.
The amendment regarding ambulance service is only to specifically
list the same under a special use heading in the B-1
classification. The existing special use regulations (Section
XXI) presently list the ambulance service as a use thereunder.
Respe ful s te ,
David A. lark, Director
Department of Community Development
