EXCERPTS FROM
TRAFFIC & PARKING COMMITTEE MEETING
DECEMBER 11 , 1991
ITEM #3 Request for stop signs on Sedgwick Street facing Stone
Street.
General consensus from the Commission was that there were
numerous site distance problems in the area and that traffic was
avoiding Jasper Street and was using Stone Street instead because
of traffic operation officers on Jasper Street. It was also felt
by the Commission that there were numerous cars for a residential
intersection.
The Commission also brought up the fact that the
neighborhood was not requested to participate in a petition for
the stop signs , but rather just one person made the request.
Mr. Swartz stated that sometimes after an accident, people
overreact and ask for traffic control items that are not
necessary.
Dr. Cook stated that he looked at the intersection and
agreed with the person who requested the signage because e felt
that the entire intersection had poor visibility. He further
stated that a yield sign would be good enough if placed on Stone
Street.
Bill Turner stated that he agreed that there would be a need
for a stop sign and that he felt it would slow down the traffic
and keep the neighborhood from becoming a thoroughfare.
Bill Turner moved and Dr. Cook seconded a motion to grant
the request for stop signs on Sedgwick facing Stone Street. That
motion was approved with four ayes, three nays, and one
abstention.
