ATTACHMENT "A" ( cont. )
9 . The Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 , effective March 21 ,
1989, brings individuals with developmental disabilities,
under the protection of the federal fair housinq law. The
purpose of this provision of the Act is to permit individuals
with developmental disabilities to live where they wish in
their community without discrimination from neiqhbors and
State and Local governments.
MRI appreciates past efforts on the part of the City of
Decatur to suppart agencies' service efforts and to address
the residential needs of individuals with developmental
disabilities; we recognize that the city is currently
reviewinq the Fair Housing Act and all of its provisions but
has not yet had time to changed city regulations to adopt this
ACt.
A special use permit is respectfully requested from that
perceptive and we look forward to changes in city regulations
and full adoption of this Act by Decatur and all local
governments in the near future.
