t • <br /> Chapter 21 .2 <br /> LANDMARK.S AND HISTO�IC DISTRICTS <br /> 1 . STATEMENT OF PURPGSE. The purpose of this chapter is to <br /> promote the educational , culturai , economic and general welfare <br /> of the City of Decatur by : <br /> ( a ) Protecting , enhancing and perpetuating the distinctive <br /> historical and/or architectural characteristics of the City whic� <br /> represent elements of the City ' s cultural , social , economic , ' <br /> pclitical or architectural h;story; <br /> (b > Fostering civic pride in the beauty and noble I <br /> ac�omplishments of the past as represented in the City ' s <br /> landmarks and historic districts; <br /> (c ) Stabilizing and improving property values of the City ' s <br /> landmarks an� historic districts; and , <br /> ( d ) Protecting and enhancing the City ' s attractiveness to <br /> tourists and visitors and the support of business and industry <br /> thereby provided . <br /> It is the intent of this chapter to accomplish the foregoing <br /> purposes and objectives by providing a mechanism whereby <br /> landmarks and districts in the City of Decat�r identified by the <br /> City C�uncil as having historical or architectural significance <br /> may be preserved and enjoyed in a suitable and harmonious <br /> environment . <br /> 2. DEFINITIONS. For purposes of this chapter , the foliowing <br /> words or terms shall have the meaning or construr_tion ascribed to <br /> them in this section: <br />
