j ' . _ � � • ' 2 � 17, An employee who has been appointed in accordance with the prov isions of statute, ordinance and rule �o a position in the classi- fied service and �o, after expization of the pYobationary period at- � tached to said position, if any, is subsequently appointed as authori- zed by and pursuant to the provisions of law or ordinance to an un- classified position or offi.ce shall continue to occupy said classified position wa.th the dutfes of said unclassified position being substitu- ted for those of such classified position. Such person shall remain a membeY of, and said classified positian shall continue to be classified in, the ciepartment, force or service in which the same was classified + a� the tim� of such subsequent appointmarrt. Seniority and pension rights and civil service status shall no�t be affected by appointment to an un- classified position and the time seYved therein shall cons�,itute cxedit- able service in said classified position. In ].ieu of the comper�sation and beno�Eits authorized for said classified pasiti�n and attached thereto, the benefits of said urtclassifiod position shall be substituted, �iethez the same be cansidered to ne lesser or greater, and shall be considered to be authozized for and attached to that particular classified position contirnxed to be occupied as aforesaid. In the event of such an appoint- m�nt the autharized number of the affected classifi.ed position, upan the diYection of the City Manager, may be incr�ased by one, in �ich case �he vacan�cq resul�Ling therefrom shall be filled as provid�d by law or ordi- nance. Upon resignation or aremoval farom an unclassified position before the termination of occupancy of a classified position the substitution of c3uties, and of compensation and benefits, shall cease. If a� the ti.me � such substitution of duties ceases, there� is a vacancy i.n the authorized numbex af the affected classified position or if none is then extant upon � the occt�r�nce of the first vacancy thereafter, at the direction of the City Manager the authorized number thereof xaay be reduced by one and such i ibilit re ister. Except as the provisions of Sections 13 throuqh �.7, a.nclusive, are applicable to the City Manager, the power and authority di the Civil Serv�.ce Cormmission to make xules shall apply there to �o carry out the pur- pose and intent thereo�E, but no rule contrary to or in conflict with said provisions shall be made.
