� <br /> 23. In addition to the requirements of BOCA Basic Building <br /> Code/1970, for the protection of structures against subterranean <br /> termites, a continuous metal shield with solid joints shall be <br /> provided over foundatio n walls, piers and on pipes to prevent ter- <br /> mites from gaining access to the s�cructure. Such shields shall <br /> be forme d of corrosion resistant material firmly inserted in the <br /> masonry, or between the foundation and any �vood, with a projection <br /> edge bent �ownward at an angle of 45 degrees and extending horizon- <br /> tally at least one inch frorn the fact of the foundation. Copper <br /> clad building paper or similar material shall not be used to satis- <br /> fy the requirements of this section; provided, that chemical treat- <br /> ment of adjacent soil may be substituted in lieu of such shielding, <br /> the manner and proof of which treatment shall be of such nature as <br /> shall satisfy the Building Official of the efficacy thereof. <br /> 24. The requirements of the aforesaid Life Safety Code, with <br /> regard to door locks are hereby modified insofar as the same may Ue <br /> applicable to mercantile, office or industrial occupancies, if there <br /> is a readily visible , durable sign placed on or adjacent to the re- <br /> quired exit door stating "This door shall remain unlocked during <br /> business hours, " u�ich sign shall be in letters not less than one <br /> inch high on a contrasting background, provi�ed the locking device <br /> on such door is of a type which readily shows when the same is locked <br /> or is not locked and provided that use of s� h door to satisfy fire <br /> exit requirements is approved in writinc� by the Building Official. <br /> Flush or surface bolts shall not be used unless the same are of not <br /> less than one-half inch round stock with a three-quarter inch mini- <br /> mum diameter control knob and that there be no more than ti�vo such <br /> bolts to an exit opening both of which are readily accessibl2. Amendments to the aforesaid standards and codes adopted <br /> herein by reference may be hereafter adopted by the filing thereof <br /> in triplicate with the City Clerk at the direction of the Council <br /> u�ich said amendments shall become effective and shall be incorp�ora- <br /> ted herein by reference and made a paxt h ere of as if fully set forth <br /> herein fifteen (15) days after the same have been so filed. <br /> 26.
