. • . ..;� � . CHAPTER 50 Ambulances and Invalid Coaches l. In this Chapter, unless otherwise specified: �a) "Ambulance service" means the maintenance, operation or use on the streets, alleys or any public aray within the City of Decatur of a vehicle which responds to emergency calls for the transportation of per�ons who are sick, injuxed, wounded or otherwise incapacitated or helpless at the time of the dispatch of the vehicle, but does not in- clude the use of a vehicle specially equipped for the care and treat- ment of premature and high-risk infants exclusively for the transporta- tion of a newborn infant fram the place of birth to a hospital facility. (b) "Invalid coach service" means a regular operation within the City of Decatur in the transportation by invalid coach, by prior appoint- ment, of non-ambulatory invalid individuals not requiring emergency medi- cal care in transit. An invalid coach service may also render services in case of accidents, calamities or other extreme emergencies as a backup vehicle when sufficient numbers of ambulances are not available. When an invalid coach is used in emergency situations, it shall have a driver and an attendant as required for ambulances by this Chapter. (c) "Ambulance" means any motor vehicle that is especially designed and constructed, equipped, and intended to be used for, and maintained or operated for, the transportation of patients in emergency situations. (d) "Invalid Coach" means a vehicle used excl�sively for the trans- poxtation of non-ambula�ory patients to or from a hospital, nursing home or the patient's home in non-e�rgency situations or in emergency situa- tions as a backup vehicle �en sufficient emergency vehicles are not available.
