That where it is found by him to be in the best <br /> interest of the public �ervice and the interest of better conduct <br /> of the public service, the City Manager may, upon initial appoint- <br /> ment or other wise, assign a particular employee to a step in grade <br /> higher than that provided herein. <br /> Section 6. That effective as of July 10, 1972, subject to <br /> and in accordance with applicable ru les and procedures and payroZls <br /> submitted to and allow�ed by the Council, authorized overtime duty <br /> served by employees in positions in the clas�ified pc>lice service <br /> shall be paid at the rate of one and one-half times the respective <br /> regular hourly rate of pay of such employees, provided: <br /> a. Overtime authorized for training and educational <br /> purposes �hall be paid at the regular rate of pay of the respec- <br /> tive employe�s. <br /> b. Employees called to duty as distinguished from <br /> employees held ov�r beyond the quitting time of their regular <br /> shift shall be paid overtime for authorized time served but for <br /> not less than a minimun of 2 hours. <br /> c. Overtime pay for an employee required to hold over <br /> beyo nd the regular shift quittin g time shall not commence unless <br /> such hold over exceed5 one-half hour. <br /> d. Employees xequired to attend court at a time other <br /> than regular duty time shall be paid overti�ae not less than 2 and <br /> not more than 6 hours per day, which overtime shall be paid at the <br /> respective regular hourly rate of pay of such employees for the first <br /> 2 hours and at one and one-half times such xate for ti�e actually <br /> served in attending cou rt beyond such first 2 ho�rs up to said maxi- <br /> mum of 6 hours per day. <br /> Section 7. That the provisions of O�dinance No. 5294, passed <br /> May 4, 1970, entitled "An Ordinance Fixing Salaries and Wages of City <br /> E�loyeest', the provisions of sub-section (a) of Section 4, and the <br /> provisions of Section 8 of Ordinance No. 5308, passed June 1, 1970, <br /> entitled "An Ordinance Regarding Pe rsonnel Rules, BenePits and Remun- <br /> eration", in�ofar as the same apply to employees in positions in the <br /> classified police �ervice be, and the same are here by, repealed. <br />
