Water service pipe from the corporation stop to the water meter other than for services larger than 2 inches in diameter shall be cold drawn, soft annealed, seamless copper suitaUle for undex- ground service with proper bending temper with quality and properties equal to A.S .T.M. Class K specifications and United States Government Type K specification W.W.T. 799. For services larger than 2 inches in diameter materials as are approved in the City of Decatur specifica- tions for water main installations may be used with the approval of the Inspection Division and the Director of the Water Department. Between water main tap and service stop there shall be a continuous unspliced run of pipe except where the distance between tap and stop exceeds 100 feet in which case splices may be permitted with the approval of the In- spection Division. Section 25. All joints and fittings between main and water meter shall be made from heavy brass metal with generous wrench surfaces which permit the joints to be easily and firmly made. The spud end of coup- lings, curb stops, corporation stop shall have a convex surface and the nut thereto shall have an opposed convex surface with extra long skirts of a diameter not less than that of the pipe, or the same shall be pro- vided with a compression connection equal in quality and performance to Mueller Co. 110 compression connections. The curb stop shall be the in- verted type with brass or galvanized tee head with round way openings and threaded for Minneapolis Patterson Extension Service Box or shall be Mueller Co. Mark II Oriseal valve similarly threaded. The inlet thread of the corporation stop shall be tapered. When a water service has as a part thereof pipe of a diameter of 14 inches or larger silver solder or an equivalent joining material may be used to join fittings to such pipe . Section 26. Al1 service pipes shall in all cases be buried not less than 3 feet 6 inches under the surface of the ground laid with due regard for danger from freezing. And if on unimproved streets, shall be laid on a level with the bottom of the main from the main to within 1 foot of the curb stop or gate valve, as the case may be , and in no case less than 3 feet 6 inches below the surface of the ground. Service pipes shall not be placed where either pipe or curb stop will be in a driveway. Section 27. Each lot shall have a separate main tap and corporation stop and a separate curb stop and box which curb stop and box shall be placed at grade within 1 foot of the sidewalk line or if the main tapped is in an alley, at grade within 6 inches of the lot line and if there are two or more houses or buildings on a single lot, separate taps and separ- ate curb stops shall be placed as above for each building served. When- ever a service requires more than '75 feet between taps and curb stop or gate valve, as the case may be, an additional stop or valve, as the case may be, shall be placed as close to the main tap as possible located simi- larly as is required above . All curb stops and gate valves shall be loca- ted on public property. Section 28.
