Marley,P.E.,Public Works Director <br /> SUBJECT: Resolution Accepting the Bid and Authorizing the Execution of a Contract with <br /> Dunn Company for Annual Street Restoration Project, <br /> City Project 2017-08, Section No. 17-00708-00-FP <br /> SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: <br /> It is recommended that the City Council approve the resolution awarding the contract for the <br /> Annual Street Restoration(Mill and Overlay)Project, City Project 2017-08,to Tyrolt, Inc. d/b/a <br /> Dunn Company, as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$710,000.00, and that the Mayor <br /> be authorized to execute the contract and the City Clerk to attest. The resolution represents an <br /> expenditure of$678,694.07as the low bid plus $31,305.93 for project contingencies. <br /> PRIOR COUNCIL ACTION: <br /> March 20,2017—Council approved Resolution R2017-33 appropriating $750,000 of Motor Fuel <br /> Tax funds for the purpose of resurfacing streets and highways under the applicable provisions of the <br /> Illinois Highway Code. <br /> BACKGROUND: <br /> Streets Inspected Annually <br /> The Engineering Division inspects and rates approximately 1/2 of the City's streets on a yearly <br /> basis. The results of these inspections are input into a computer database which is used to project <br /> the future condition of the streets based on their current and historical condition, and surface type <br /> (i.e. brick, concrete, asphalt, etc.). This data is then paired with available funding and is used as a <br /> basis to aid City Engineering in the preparation of the City's yearly street improvement program. <br /> Staff then determines what type of improvement would be appropriate for each street. <br /> Project Description <br /> The 2017 project will perform mill and overlay work on portions of Mound Road. In total, 5.46 <br /> lane miles of the City's 825 total lane miles will be rehabilitated as part of this project. <br /> Crack sealing will also be performed as part of this project to help preserve streets and extend their <br /> lifespan. <br /> The proposed street list for Street Restoration is as follows (see attached location maps): <br /> 1 <br />
