Economic&Commuiuty Development DATE: 11/5/2018 MEMO: No. 18-22 TO: Honorable Mayor Julie Moore Wolfe and City Council FROM: Billy Tyus,Interim City Manager Raymond Lai,AICP,Economic and Community Development Director Susan Kretsinger,Neighborhood Inspections Administrator Dan Kline,Deputy Chief of Fire Prevention and Administration SUBJECT: City Code Chapters 44,67,67.2,68,69,and 70 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: The Economic and Community Development Depamnent and the Fire Department would like to recomrr►end adoption of the following codes as updates to the current corresponding versions we are using: For City Code Chapter 44-2015 International Fire Code For City Code Chapter 67-2015 International Building Code For City Code Chapter 67.2-2015 International Residential Building Code For City Code Chapter 68-2015 International Mechanical and Fuel Gas Code For City Code Chapter 69-2014 National Electrical Code For City Code Chapter 70-2015 Internarional Property Maintenance Code BACKGROUND: The Building Inspections Divisioq along with Neighborhood Inspecrions and the City Fire Inspectors use these Intemarional Codes as Model Codes for inspecting new construction and eacisting buildings to determine compliance to minimum standards of building safety,property maintenance,and fire prevention methods The National Electrical Code is used for the same purpose but it is published by a different source. Most municipalities and corrnnuiuties in the United States and many other countries use these same codes as their standards for miiumum compliance. The codes are updated every three years based on recommendarions from inspectors,fire officials,building product manufactures and others in the building industry. Each municipality decides when to update the code versions that they use. Below is a chart comparing some of the Central Illinois municipalities with the version of codes they currernly enforce.
