SPECIAL PROVISIONS <br /> SP-5 TRAFFIC CONTROL <br /> Description: Traffic control shall be in accordance with the applicable sections of the <br /> Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction, the applicable guidelines contained in <br /> the Illinois Manual on Uniform Traffic Devices for Streets and Highways, these Standard <br /> Specifications, and any special details and Highway Standards contained herein and in the plans. ' <br /> Special attention is called to Articles 107.09 and 107.14 and Sections 701, 702, and 703 of <br /> the Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction and the following highway standards <br /> relating to traffic control: <br /> Highway Standards: 701311 701501 701502 701701 701801 <br /> 701901 <br /> In the event that it is necessary to close the lane and/or street, the Engineer shall be <br /> consulted to obtain permission at least 48 working hours in advance of the proposed lane and/or <br /> street closing. All appropriate lane closure permits shall be filed with the appropriate <br /> jurisdiction prior to any street/lane closures. In addition, at the end of every work day the lane <br /> and/or street shall be opened to local traffic unless approved by the Engineer. When lanes or roads <br /> must be closed for multiple days and nights, work must take place every day there is a closure, <br /> weather permitting. It will not be permitted to leave the road in an un-passable condition without ' <br /> active work taking place, unless given pre-approval by the Engineer. It shall be the responsibility of <br /> the Contractor to notify the Engineer, who will in turn, notify all forms of local media of the <br /> schedule of street closures for the following week, after receiving the approval by the Engineer. A <br /> copy of the notification will be provided to the Contractor. <br /> Traffic control standards shall be applied as directed by the Engineer. Suggested <br /> applications for each standard are as follows: <br /> Traffic Standard 701311: This standard shall be utilized for faster moving operations such <br /> as pavement striping. <br /> Traffic Standard 701501: This standard shall be utilized for lane closures on <br /> two-lane <br /> r <br /> streets. <br /> Traffic Standard 701502: This standard shall be utilized for lane closures on roads with bi- <br /> directional turn lanes. <br /> Traffic Standard 701701: This standard shall be utilized for lane closures within multi-lane <br /> intersections. <br /> Traffic Standard 701801: This standard shall be utilized for sidewalk closures. <br /> Standard 701901 shall be used for the applicable traffic control devices needed. ' <br /> All additional traffic control as required in the standard details that are not specifically <br /> provided for herein will be considered as included with the various pay items requiring traffic ' <br /> control. <br /> 5 <br />
