pavement has failed. Reconstruction generally involves the full removal of the pavement, <br /> stabilizing the base material with cement, and then relaying an asphalt surface. Arbor Drive will <br /> be constructed in multiple stages to maintain one-way traffic during the duration of <br /> reconstruction work. The City and the contractor performing the work will be in contact with the <br /> residents along this stretch of Arbor Drive. In total, 3.34 lane miles of the City's 825 total lane <br /> miles will be rehabilitated as part of this project. <br /> The annual paving projects generally include a significant amount of patching to repair failed <br /> street sections that are becoming more prevalent throughout the City as capital improvement <br /> funds devoted to pavement maintenance are reduced. The Micro-surfacing project is focused on <br /> protecting pavements with moderate deterioration from further damage. The actions of sun, <br /> freezing, traffic and age all combine to deteriorate pavement. Micro-surfacing is designed to seal <br /> and protect the pavement surface and slow deterioration thereby delaying the need of more <br /> expensive treatments such as a mill and overlay or reconstruction.
