� �, <br /> .P .l, <br /> o Earth Day is April 22, 2011 — DCC will coordinate a community event or <br /> create a partnership with local green/recycling organizations to build <br /> awareness through Earth Day events <br /> • Letters to the editor <br /> Partnerships with Schools: DCC will coordinate with schools to educate kids about <br /> recycling and the impact to the environment. We will also work to teach kids which <br /> materials can be recycled and help them take a vested interest in the future of a sustainable <br /> community. Partnership components can include but not be limited to: <br /> • Introducing the mascot at school assemblies and school/family events those <br /> scheduled around Earth Day <br /> • Schedule the mascot to speak to classrooms on Earth Day and other days that can <br /> tie into the sustainability movement <br /> • Create competitions among school that promote recycling both at school and at <br /> home —challenging kids to teach their parents how to become a greener, cleaner <br /> household <br /> • Partner with student organization like the Environmental Affairs Council at Millikin or <br /> the student counciis at area high schools to strengthen community education efforts <br /> Social Media: DCC will create and manage Facebook and Twitter pages for the recycling <br /> effort updating community members on recycling tips, events, participation and impactful <br /> information about recycling both locally and nationally. DCC will continue to build the list of <br /> followers with the goal of building participation in the program. <br /> Grassroots efforts/partnerships: DCC Marketing will create partnerships and initiate <br /> grassroots efforts to educate the community and increase participation in the new recycling <br /> program. DCC will initiate and manage the partnership to create outreach efforts and <br /> events with organizations including but not limited to: <br /> • Children's museum <br /> • Decatur Park District <br /> • Student organizations <br /> • Richland Community College <br /> • Decatur businesses (institute a business incentive or challenge) <br /> Traditional Media Assistance: DCC will assist the City staff with message development, <br /> drafting and editing of press materials, media outreach and interview coordination and any <br /> other traditional media needs as needed. <br />
