- ' ' • '
Circuit Breakers-Low Voitage
Mechanicai Insqection
• Inspect physical and mechanical condition.
• Check breaker for smooth operation by closing and tripping several times.
• Check connections for tightness.
• Clean and inspect breaker for cracked or broken springs or retainers. If draw out type,
inspect primary and secondary finger clusters for overheating and broken parts.
Electrical Testinp
• Check contact resistance with a low resistance ohmmeter.
• Check breaker insulation resistance with a D.C. Meg ohmmeter as fiollows:
✓ Phase to Phase- breaker closed.
✓ Phase to Ground - breaker closed.
Air Circuit Breakers-Medium Voltage
Mechanical Insqection
• Inspect physical and mechanical condition.
• Inspect anchorage, alignment and grounding. Inspect arc chutes. Inspect moving and
stationary contacts for condition, wear and alignment.
• Verify that primary and secondary contact wipe and other dimensions vital to satisfactory
operation of the breaker are correct.
Perform all mechanical operator and contact alignment tests on both the breaker and its
operating mechanism.
• Verify cell fit and element alignment.
• Verify racking mechanism.
• Inspect puffer operation.
• Lubrication:
✓ Verify appropriate contact lubricant on moving current-carrying parts.
✓ Verify appropriate lubrication on moving and sliding surfaces.
• Record as-found and as-left operation-counter readings.
Electrical Testin
• Perform a contact-resistance test.
• Perform an insulation-resistance test at 1000 volts dc from pole-to pole and from each
pole-to-ground with breaker closed and across open contacts of each phase.
• Pertorm resistance measurements through all bolted connections with a low-resistance
ohmmeter, if applicable.
• PerForm insulation-resistance test at 500 volts dc on all control wiring. For units with
solid-state components, follow manufacturer's recommendations.
• With breaker in the test position, make the following tests:
✓ Trip and close breaker with the control switch.
✓ Trip breaker by operating each of its protective relays.
✓ Verify trip-free and anti-pump function.
Siemens Energy 8 Automation, Inc.
Process Solutions Division 2220 W Altorter Dr. Tel: (309)696-D535 www.sea.siemens.com/engineer
Industrial Services Business Unit Peoria,IL 61615 Fax:(678)297-8535
