4� i� �� � I 1 <br /> A SUMMARY OF THE OUTREACH & PUBLIC PARTICIPATION <br /> DURING THE COMPREHENSIVE PLANNING PROCESS <br /> ❖ Camiros was contracted for professional services in August 2006. <br /> ❖ A formal press conference was held at the Decatur Arts Council to announce the <br /> beginning of the planning process and subsequently media were contacted with further <br /> information regarding the process. <br /> ❖ A thirteen (13) Member Steering Committee was jointly created in October 2006, by <br /> then Mayor Paul Osborn and County Board Chair Dave Wolfe. From January 2007 through May <br /> 2009, the Steering Committee met 11 times. <br /> ❖ A press event took place to inform the public of the town hall meeting dates, times and <br /> places. Subsequently, media were contacted with information regarding the planning process. <br /> ❖ The Steering Committee hosted two (2) sets of town hall style meetings. Each set <br /> consisted of four (4) meetings held at different locations in the County. Meeting locations were <br /> Hickory Point Golf Course Clubhouse, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Mt. Zion Public Library <br /> and Main Street Church of God. 173 people attended the first set and approximately 136 <br />� people attended the second set. <br /> ❖ Five (5) Focus or Working groups were created. The Groups created were Natura) <br /> Resources, Transportation, Quality of Life, Economic Development and Housing. The individuals <br /> who volunteered to participate held specific knowledge and practical experience in one or <br /> more of the particular fields. The groups met on two occasions. Fifty-six practitioners were <br /> involved in these meetings. <br /> ❖ A scientific survey was distributed to 9,904 addresses throughout the County. 1,494 <br /> responses were received for an overall 16% rate of return. A summary of the survey results was <br /> prepared and distributed. <br /> ❖ A formal presentation of the Draft Plan was made to a joint meeting of the Decatur Plan <br /> Commission and the Macon County Regional Planning Commission. <br /> ❖ The Draft Plan was posted on both Decatur's and the County's websites in August 2008 <br /> and a press release was sent to the media informing them that the Draft Plan was available. <br /> ❖ A copy of the Draft Plan was placed in all metropolitan area libraries. <br /> ❖ Printed copies were provided to Council members and copies supplied to the County. <br /> Continued on the Reverse Side <br />
