SUMMARY <br /> The program is designed to a11ow the Macon County Sheriff's Department to be a more <br /> effective law enforcement enc b utilizin the fundin for hire back rsonnel on an <br /> � Y Y g g Pe <br /> overtime basis. The hire back personnel will include Deputy Sheriffs,correctional officer, <br /> and Court Security Officers. The hire back officers will be utilized to increase security in <br /> the Macon County Court Facility,area events, and to transport prisoners on warrant and <br /> to and from Correctional facilities in the State of Illinois. 'This will enable other Sheriff's <br /> Department personnel to devote more time to community policing efforts. <br /> The program will also be used to purchase fuel for squad cazs and transport van. <br /> II. REVIEW OF PROGRESS MADE <br /> The Loca1 Law Enforcement Block Grant awarded to the Macon County SherifP s <br /> Department for the past several years have been allocated in large part to the hire back <br /> programs. T'hese programs have included extra security at the Macon County Courts <br /> facility, over hire hours for correctional personnel in transporting prisoners,increased <br /> security at special events, and over hire hours in major criminal cases. <br /> III. STATEMENT OF PROBLEM <br /> Utilizing community policing strategies commits the Macon County Sheriff's <br /> Department to ensuring the safety of the citizens of Macon County. The Macon County <br /> Jail is overcrowded with 290 inmates housed in a shucture designed to accommodate 180 <br /> inmates. In order to address these problem correctional officers will be working over hire <br /> hours to transport inmates to State Of Illinois conectional facilities. In high profile <br /> criminal and civil cases there is a need for increased security. The Macon County <br /> Sheriff's Department will utilize over hire hours by court security officers to ensure the <br /> safety of the judicial process. Often increased law enforcement presence is needed at <br /> special events, i.e. Farm Progress Show,numerous small community festivals as well as <br />
