3. Identify possible causes for the cavitation that is reportedly occurring with the
existing pumps, and recommend possible methods to mitigate or eliminate
cavitation.
4. Recommend suitable alternative types of pumping equipment for possible
replacement of the existing pumps.
5. Provide conceptual level cost estimates for the initial capital and life cycle
costs for replacement pumping equipment.
6. Estimate the hydraulic capacity of the existing piping, aeration basin, and open
channel network. Identify potential "bottlenecks"in the existing water
transmission system that are reportedly causing backups and overflows to
occur.
7. Develop alternative methods for improving the existing water transmission
system and provide a conceptual level cost estimate for implementation.
8. Investigate whether or not Friends Creek has the hydraulic capacity to convey
the rated ground water production capacity(24 mgd) of the DeWitt well field.
Investigate whether or not there are any regulatory or environmental concerns
about the volume of water that can be discharged to Friends Creek from the
DeWitt well field.
B. Instrumentation and Controls
1. Develop a list of operating parameters that are recommended for remote
monitoring of the existing facilities at the DeWitt well field from the South
Water Treatment Plant.
2. Determine instrumentation necessary to monitor the recommended
parameters. Assume that 120 volt ac service is available at each pump house.
3. Consult with Owner's independent SCADA system consultant to determine
their recommended telemetry methods for providing remote monitoring.
Assume that latitude and longitude coordinates for each pump house are
available from Owner.
4. Provide conceptual level cost estimates for the initial capital costs for
installation of new remote monitoring equipment.
A-2
City of Decatur Task Order No.10
DeWitt Well Field Study Rev.08-17-06
