LONG TERM GOALS 4 voTEs Complete Implementation Of Citywide GIS—Implementing a comprehensive GIS system will almost certainly require a multi-departmental,multi-agency agreement. Implementation:May 2006-December 2008 Action Plan: ➢ The Decatur City Council authorized$400,000 in this year's budget to facilitate the development of a GIS system. ➢ We have established a GIS technical committee which will guide the technical aspects of the GIS search.Once those needs are outlined a larger,more comprehensive group will be formed to oversee the actual implementation of the program. ➢ We would expect that the pracess will be completed by 2008. Evalnate and Implement Code Enforcement Best Practices Based On Study Outcomes —Our current city code is lengthy and covers a multitude of different areas.As such,we will be surveying council members over the coming months to determine which areas of code might need revisiting. Implementation: August 2006-January 2008 Action Plan: ➢ Once information is gathered from the City Council,we will continue ongoing efforts to survey neighboring cities in an effort to determine best practices. ➢ Once the surveys and reviews are completed we will schedule a series of regular sessions(perhaps monthly,bi-monthly or quarterly)over a period of time to discuss and implement possible changes. Continue Developing Lake Decatur(Storage capacity,recreation attractions,etc.)—It is our opinion that this goal should be split into two separate issues—development of storage capacity and of the lake and lakefront. Implementation: Ongoing Action Plan: ➢ (Water Supply)Recently the Mayor and Macon County Board Chairman Dave Wolfe announced the creation of a Greater Decatur Water Commission. The group is made up of representatives of various governing boards will help guide future water supply efforts. ➢ (Water Snpply)As you know the proposed new lake was to be constructed of sediment garnered from ongoing dredging operations. If all goes according to plan we should be done dredging basin 6 in the fall of 2008 and will need a plan for dealing with sediment before that time. ➢ (Lake and Lakefront Development) Seeing as how much of the lakefront is owned and operated by the Decatur Pazk District,the timeline for how and when this will happen will be guided by them. However,we have met with the district and will continue to work very closely with them to accomplish this directive.
