- This project was put together with alternate bids for asphalt or concrete pavement to replace the
existin; concrete pavement. A broad approach to evaluating the contrasting pavement sections
suggests that concrete pavement will have a useful life approaching 40 years. The pavement desi for
9 asphalt will have a useful life approaching 20 years to which an additional 15 to 20 years can be added
through the application of a 2" asphalt overlay at around the 20 year point. The $46,461.82 added cost
for concrete over asphalt will be worth the added cost over the 40 year estimated life span of the
pavement. Staff recommends the selection of the concrete alternate for the reconstruction of the
Country Manor subdivision pavement.
Beniach Construction Company, Inc. provided the low bid for the proposed work. Staff recommends
that the City Council approve a contract with Beniach Construction Company, Inc., to construct a
concrete pavement in the Counhy Manor subdivision.
The bids received for this project have provided an opportunity to increase the curb and utter
replacement on the project to 100% as opposed to 25% - 30%. This increase in curb and utter
removal would be in the form of a Council authorized change order which will add $45,000.00 to the
project. The complete replacement of the curb and ;utter will provide a better overall project and will
still be within the budgeted expenditure for Counhy Manor street work.
A second project is proposed for this subdivision in Fiscal Year 2007 that will complete the seet
reconstruction work in the rest of the neighborhood.
POTENTIAL OBJECTION: There are no known objections to this resolution and bid
award.
 INPUT FROM OTHER SOURCES: None
STAFF REFERENCE: Matt Newell, City En;ineer, at 424-2747
Travis Stanley, Civil Engineer I, at 424-2747
The City Enneer, Matt Newell, will be in attendance at the City Council meeting to answer any
questions of the Council on this item.
BUDGET/TIME IlIPLICATIONS:
Funding for this project is budeted in the General Street Capital Fund. The recommended low bid
amount is $389,974.76. The recommended change order to the project is in the amount of$45,000.00
and is within the funding currently availabie within the General Street Capital Fund.
The project should begi,n in Au;ust and be completed by November, 2005.
Attach: 4
cc: John Smith, Assistant City Manager of Public Services
Phil Wilhelm, Municipal Services Manager
Doug Nooden, Assistant City Enneer
Bob Davidson, Enneerin;Technician Supervisor
 Beniach Construction Company, Inc.
- ' Otto Baum Company, Inc._
Pae ?
