Newell,P.E., City EngineerG�u�( SUBJECT: Annual Sanitary Sewer Cleaning, City Project 2003-11 SUMMARY RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended by staff that the City Council approve the attached resolution awarding the contract for Annual Sanitary Sewer Cleaning, City Project 2003-11, to Hoerr Construction, Inc., as the lowest, responsible bidder in the amount of$88,750.00, and that the Mayor be authorized to execute the contract, and the City Clerk to attest. il BACKGROUND: '� Sanitary sewer lines are an extremely vital part of the City's infrastructure. They require constant �I maintenance of which cleaning is the most critical component. The proposed Annual Sanitary Sewer Cleaning Project is geared toward doing general sewer line cleaning of approximately ', 100,000 feet of City sewers. This work will be accomplished alongside City maintenance , cleaning operations and will augment the cleaning work currently being done. Maintaining clean , and unobstructed sewer pipes will reduce sewer backups and improve the overall operation of the City's sanitary sewer system. If successful, this project will be expanded upon to become an annual maintenance project that will ultimately reduce many of the backup problems encountered in the City's sewers. The project specifications were prepared by the Engineering Division. The project was advertised on June 16, 2003 and bids were received on June 30, 2003. The results of the letting are as follows (bid tabulation attached): Compared to Engineer's Est.
