Decatur Neighborhood Services Division BES Proposal#02-0276
Subsurface Investigation July 5,2002
1.5 BODINE shall submit the soil samples to the PDC Laboratories, Inc. for analysis of
BTEX(SW 846 Method 5035) and Lead(SW 846 Method 6010 and SPLP). The borings
shall be screened with a Photovac Micro-Tip Photo-ionization Detector(PID)to
deternune appropriate interva.ls to collect samples for laboratory analysis. Tota1 and SPLP
Lead analysis is necessary to legitima.tely compare the soil concentration values to the 35
Illinois Administrative Code 742, Tiered Approach to Conective Action Objectives
(TACAO) Migration to Groundwater and Residential Ingestion/Inhalation Objectives.
1.6 Based upon the information reviewed in the Phase I Report, assessment of the potential
for adjacent properties to impact groundwater was identified. Therefore, BODINE shall
utilize the truck mounted geoprobe unit to install 1 inch diameter temporary wells in the
one of the subsurface borings at each of the Properties, provided groundwater is
encountered within 15 feet bgs. The temporary wells will be sampled for Volatile Organic
Compounds (VOCs). Groundwater samples will be submitted to PDC Laboratories for
analysis using SW 846 Method 8260 for aqueous samples.
1.7 It is anticipated that one sample from each soil boring location will be collected for
chemical analysis. The vertical sample locations shall be determined in the field using the
PID and visual observations. The location within each boring that exhibits the highest PID
reading shall be collected for analysis. If PID readings do not indicate the presence of
VOCs, a grab sample sha11 be collected at an interval consistent with the highest potential
for the presence of contamination.
Up to 6 total soil samples may be submitted to the PDC Laboratories, Inc. for analysis.
Sampling and laboratory protocol shall follow USEPA procedures identified in SW-846,
Method 5035/8260B using Terracore sampling devices for BTEX, Method 8270C/625 for
PAHs, and Method 6020/200.8 for Lead and SPLP eXtraction. Proper sample
preservation and Chain of Custody shall be followed.
1.8 Upon completion of the subsurface investigation, each boring location and/or temporary
well shall be filled with bentonite to surface to minimie migration of surface water to
groundwater.
-3-
BODINE ENVIRONMENTAL SEAVICES,INC.
