Applicant: Macon-Piatt Adult/Teen GED Academy <br /> Project: The "Mobile"Workforce Technology Plan (11) <br /> Recommended award.• $13,351.94 <br /> Prior Funding Received.• No (This is a first year request.) <br /> The Macon-Piatt Adult/Teen GED Academy provides alternative educational services to at-risk youth <br /> and adults, many of whom are low income and/or incarcerated. This project funds the "Mobile" <br /> Workforce Technology Plan,providing notebook computers to be transported to the various learning sites. ' <br /> The computers will allow the students to access educational software,career option/training programs,and <br /> the Internet, to help prepare them for transition to employment. �, <br /> 9. Applicant: Trinity Christian Methodist Episcopal Church I <br /> Project: Computer Training Partnership Program(12) �I <br /> Recommended award: $9,562.36 �i <br /> Prior Funding Received: No (This is a first year request.) � <br /> The Trinity Christian Methodist Episcopal Church's Computer Training Partnership Program is <br /> designed to teach computer literacy skills to 60 youth and adults. The church will collaborate with Richland <br /> Community College to teach community residents (primarily low- and moderate-income) <br /> computer and j ob readiness skills,business applications,and keyboarding to prepare them for entrance <br /> into the workforce. Funds are used for a Program Coordinator and the purchase of computers and related <br /> supplies. <br /> 10. Applicant: Big Brothers Big Sisters of Macon County <br /> Project: School Buddies: School-based Mentoring Program (13) <br /> Recommended award.• $11,126.61 <br /> PriorFundingReceived: Yes(Funds were received in 1999 and 2000. This is a third consecutive <br /> year request.) <br /> Big Brothers Big Sisters has developed the"School Buddies"program,a school-based mentoring <br /> program provided to elementary and middle school students in Decatur's public schools. The program <br /> matches adult volunteers with children who are referred by teachers,administrators or counselors,serving <br /> approximately 100 children each year. City funding is used for the Program Coordinator. <br /> 11. Applicant: Decatur Not In Our Town <br /> Project: Kids with Character (14) <br /> Recommended award: $11,126.61 <br /> Prior Funding Received: Yes (Funds were received in 2000. This is a second year request.) <br /> The Not In Our Town program focuses on eliminating racism through various educational opportunities. <br /> City funding is used for the"Kids With Character"program. This program is designed to help children in <br /> grades 1-6 to make positive lifestyle choices and avoid unhealthybehaviors. Currently approximately 60 <br /> children are being served by the program, which meets once a week at a local church. <br />
