. � <br /> • D. Industrial Sites <br /> There are industrial sites of all sizes located throughout the county, with the <br /> greatest concentrarion being located in eastem Decatur. <br /> E. Public Transportation <br /> Decatur Public Transit System operates in the Decatur area. For emergency <br /> evacuarions,Public Transit System buses, as well as school buses, are available <br /> to respond throughout the county. There are also two taxi cab service available in <br /> the Decatur area. <br /> F. Streets and Highways <br /> There are 1,672 iniles of streets and highways in Macon County's major <br /> transportarion routes a�•e: <br /> l. Interstate 72 <br /> 2. Bypass 412 <br /> 3. U. 5. Routes 51 and 36 <br /> 4. State Routes 121,48 and 105 <br /> 5. Brush College Road(Co. Hwy. 1) <br /> 6. 27�'Street, Decatur(Co. Hwy. 3) <br /> G. itailroads <br /> 1. Railroad services in Macon County have decreased in recent years and <br /> Macon County no longer has regular rail passenger service. Norfolk and <br /> Southern Corporation, and Illinois Central Gutf Railroad have major <br /> • switching yards in Decatur where rail cars containing hazazdous <br /> materials are moved to and from local industries by rail. Rail lines <br /> parallel a11 or parts of Routes 51, 36,48, and 121 through the county; <br /> another runs east from Decatur through Oakley and Cerro Gordo. <br /> H. Airports <br /> 1. Decatur Airport consists of 1,200 acres of land. There are three runways <br /> —the longest is 8,500 feet,the other two 5,300 feet. In 1992,there were <br /> 67,463 flight operations at the airport.United Parcel Service makes <br /> regular flights from its base at the airport; its cargo routinely includes <br /> hazardous materials, including radioactive materials. Small commuter <br /> planes provide links with Chicago, St. Louis, and other larger <br /> Midwestern cities. The airport is heavily used by private pilots.
