. � <br /> Groundwater <br /> ' Investigation Proposal <br /> 21 May 1999 <br /> 2. Each well will then be develo ed to atte I <br /> p mpt to remove sol�ds accumulated <br /> inside the well. During development,the well will be surged with a <br /> disposable bailer and approximately 10 well casing volumes of water�vill be <br /> removed(if possible)with a peristaltic or downwell pump. <br /> 3. Approsimately 48 hours following well development, each well will be , <br /> sampled with a low-flow pump with dedicated tygun tubing to minimize cross <br /> contamination between sampling points. The pump will estract water at a ' <br /> su�ciently low rate to minimize settled solids agitation drawing water <br /> laterally from the jroundwater formation,rather than from the well casing. � <br /> Temperature,turbidity, pH, and specific conductivity of pumped water will <br /> be monitored in a flow-through cell until these parameters stabilize, at which <br /> time the groundwater samples will be collected. <br /> 4. The groundwater samples will be collected and sent to Savannah <br /> Laboratories of Savannah,Georgia, or another qualified laboratory for I <br /> chemical analysis. The nine groundwater samples from the Zesel Settling <br /> Lagoon Area will be analyzed for the Target Compound List(TCL)VOCs, ' <br /> SVOCs, PCBs/Pesticides, and Target Analyte List(TAL) inorganics. The <br /> 14 wel(s in the Industry&Technology Center wiil be analyzed for TCL <br /> VOCs and TAL inorganics. In addition,three duplicate groundwater I <br /> samples will be collected for laboratory quality assurance purposes. At each I <br /> well, an additional sample container will be filled and submitted to the I <br /> laboratory to be held for possible analysis of PCBs and lead(lead only for , <br /> the Industry&Technology Center), contingent on the TCL/TAL analysis. ' <br /> A specific protocol wil( be followed regarding the analysis of PCBs and ' <br /> lead. If the TCL/TAL analysis indicates a detection oFPCBs above the I <br /> detection limit, then the laboratory will be instructed to allow the"held" , <br /> sample to settle and analyze a decanted portion for PCBs. Similarly, if the I <br /> total lead concentration in a well is above the Tier 1 Class I groundwater ' <br /> standard(7.5 micrograms per liter),then the laboratory will analyze a , <br /> decanted portion for lead. The cost estimate assumes two analyses for both I <br /> lead and PCBs. 'i <br /> 5. The fie(d and laboratory quality assurance/quality control program will also II� <br /> include the appropriate number of field blank and laboratory trip blank <br /> samples. I <br /> Decontamination and purge water will be containerized in 55-gallon drums for <br /> subsequent testing and disposal,which will be conducted as a separate task.
