Williams,Jr., City Manager
Bruce A. McNabb,P.E., Director of Public Works
John A. Smith,Water Production Manager
Stephen P. Swanson,P.E., City Engineer/
SUBJECT: Water Resources/Storage/Production Study
Lake Shelbyville Alternative Analysis
At the October 28, 1996, City Council meeting City staff presented its recommendations for
water system improvements following the completion of the Water Resources / Storage /
Production Study (RSP Study) prepared for the City by HARZA Consulting Engineers and
Scientists and staffs review of the RSP Study. In response to staffs presentation, there were
questions by Council Members about the determinations made in the report and by sta.ff regarding
the use of Lake Shelbyville as a source of water to meet the City's needs. The questions were
essentially about the preliminary feasibility analyses and costs developed for Lake Shelbyville as a
water source.
The questions and comments indicated an interest by Council to have the feasibility of using
Lake Shelbyville more fully examined. Subsequent to the meeting, staff contacted HARZA and
requested a proposal for performing a more detailed Lake Shelbyville feasibility analysis. The
decision to use HARZA was based on their background knowledge and information developed on '
this matter while preparing the RSP Study.
