All
alternatives resulted in an increase in vehicie delay over Alternative A,except for Alternatives B and
E,which produced only insignificant improvements area wide.
Business Surveys
Phone and in-person surveys were conducted with local trucking agencies, the school district, public
transit and St.Mars Hospital. The surveys indicated that the trucking agencies, transit and school
district generally would not be impacted significantly by the relocation. The hospital expressed
concern for emergency access.
Alternative Truck Routes
Relocation of trucks to other routes could be mandated only through redesignation of Illinois 105 to
other routes. Redesignation of Illinois 105 to other routes has both advantages and disadvantages.
Loss of state maintenance funds for Lake Shore Drive is one economic disadvantage. Truck noise
impacts on other neighborhoods is another disadvantage of route redesignation.
Environmental Issues
Dependent on the source of funding and the extent of the relocation, prepazation of an
Environmental Assessment or an Environmental Impact Statement may be required. Issues that
would need to be investigated include:
• Wetlands
• Noise
• Environmental contamination
• Threatened and endangered species
• Flood plains
• Environmental permits
• Culturally signiticant, historic and archeological sites
• Properiy acquisition and relocation
, Bucher, Willis£a Ratlifj-2
, ,..w,.K,..ro.,,,oK„n.s.v
