CHAPTER 28 <br /> COMMISSION ON HUMAN RELATIONS <br /> l . CREATION. To advance the cause of mutual understanding <br /> and respect among all peoples in the City of Decatur in order to <br /> combat prejudice, intolerance, bigotry, discrimination and <br /> disorder, there is hereby created the Decatur Commission on Human <br /> Relations consisting of thirteen (13) members, who shall serve <br /> without compensation. <br /> 2 . MEMBERSHIP. The members of the Commission shall be <br /> residents of the City of Decatur selected so that the Commission <br /> shall be a broad representation of community interests. <br /> 3 . APPOINTMENT AND TERM. Members of the Commission shall <br /> be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Council for <br /> terms of three years. Vacancies shall be filled by the Mayor <br /> with the consent of the Council within sixty (60) days after <br /> having occurred for the unexpired portion of the vacant term or <br /> full term. <br /> 4 . OFFICERS. The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the <br /> Commission, and any other officers deemed necessary by said body, <br /> shall be elected by the majority vote of the membership of the <br /> Commission. <br /> 5 . DUTIES. The Commission shall, in cooperation with the ' <br /> Mayor, City Council , City Manager, departments, agencies and <br /> officials, endeavor to assure fair and equal treatment under the <br /> law to all citizens, to protect the rights of all persons to <br /> enjoy public accommodations and facilities and to receive equal <br />
