The near west historic district has a continuous group-
ing of properties having a sense of cohesiveness ex-
presead through a similarity of characteristics of
style, period, or method of construction [Section 4
(g) ] ; i. e. , numerous architectural styles are repre-
sented in the historic district . Among the most
popular are : Colonial Revival (used I06 times) , fol-
lowed by Queen Anne (used 60 times) , and Craftsman
(used 39 times) .
5 . The near west historic district has a unique location
or singular physical characteristic that makes it an
established or familiar feature [Section 4 (i) ] ; i. e. ,
the historic district is located directly west of the
central part of the City of Decatur where the original
settlement occurred. Out of 284 buildings, 248 are
listed as contributing to the significance of the his-
toric district.
Therefore, based on the above findings, the Historical and Ar-
chitectural Sites Commission recommends to the City Council of
the City of Decatur to approvs the 3esignation of the north
central portion of the near west as a histoiic district.
