2-4 . Classified Service - all positions and places of employment ' of the City of Decatur which are not expressly excluded from the classified service. 2-5 . Continuous Service - employment with the City uninter- rupted by resignation, discharge, or leave of absence from the classified service . 2-6. Departmental Seniority - the length of continuous service within the same department regardless of the position held within the department. 2-7 . Discharge - a disciplinary action effectively terminating an individual's employment with the City. 2-8 . Duty Day - the regular work hours of each day; normally the duty day for other than fire service employees will be eight consecutive hours within a twenty four hour period. 2-9 . Duty Schedule or Shift Schedule - a timetable of the regularly scheduled duty days and duty hours of each employee. 2-10 . Duty Week - the regularly scheduled duty days within a calendar week so that the number of hours worked during the year averages fifty six hours per week for regular shift fire service employees and forty hours per week for other employees. 2-11. Emergency - an unforeseen combination of circumstances or the resulting state that calls for immediate action. 2-12 . Fire Service - all sworn members of the fire fighting force of the Fire Department not excluded from the application of this ordinance. 2-13 . Full time employee - an employee who works a regular duty week of forty hours or more, excluding temporary or seasonal employees, and also excluding those employees whose services are performed as part of an unemployment work relief or work training program assisted or financed in whole or in part by any Federal agency or an agency of the State of Illinois. 2-14 . General Service - all full time employees not excluded from the application of this ordinance, except those employees in the police or fire services. 2-15. Notice - a communication given directly to a supervisor or other person as may be designated containing information required by ordinance or administrative rule. Notice may be given orally unless written notice is specified. Time limits affecting the efficacy of notices may be established administratively. 2-16. Part time employee - an employee who is employed for less than an average of forty duty hours per week.
