2-4 . Classified Service - all positions and places of employment <br />' of the City of Decatur which are not expressly excluded from the <br /> classified service. <br /> 2-5 . Continuous Service - employment with the City uninter- <br /> rupted by resignation, discharge, or leave of absence from the <br /> classified service . <br /> 2-6. Departmental Seniority - the length of continuous service <br /> within the same department regardless of the position held within <br /> the department. <br /> 2-7 . Discharge - a disciplinary action effectively terminating <br /> an individual's employment with the City. <br /> 2-8 . Duty Day - the regular work hours of each day; normally <br /> the duty day for other than fire service employees will be eight <br /> consecutive hours within a twenty four hour period. <br /> 2-9 . Duty Schedule or Shift Schedule - a timetable of the <br /> regularly scheduled duty days and duty hours of each employee. <br /> 2-10 . Duty Week - the regularly scheduled duty days within a <br /> calendar week so that the number of hours worked during the year <br /> averages fifty six hours per week for regular shift fire service <br /> employees and forty hours per week for other employees. <br /> 2-11. Emergency - an unforeseen combination of circumstances or <br /> the resulting state that calls for immediate action. <br /> 2-12 . Fire Service - all sworn members of the fire fighting <br /> force of the Fire Department not excluded from the application of <br /> this ordinance. <br /> 2-13 . Full time employee - an employee who works a regular duty <br /> week of forty hours or more, excluding temporary or seasonal <br /> employees, and also excluding those employees whose services are <br /> performed as part of an unemployment work relief or work training <br /> program assisted or financed in whole or in part by any Federal <br /> agency or an agency of the State of Illinois. <br /> 2-14 . General Service - all full time employees not excluded <br /> from the application of this ordinance, except those employees in <br /> the police or fire services. <br /> 2-15. Notice - a communication given directly to a supervisor <br /> or other person as may be designated containing information <br /> required by ordinance or administrative rule. Notice may be given <br /> orally unless written notice is specified. Time limits affecting <br /> the efficacy of notices may be established administratively. <br /> 2-16. Part time employee - an employee who is employed for less <br /> than an average of forty duty hours per week. <br />
